1,2-butylene glycol is completely soluble in water, highly soluble in alcohols and less soluble in ether and ester but insoluble in compounds of hydrocarbons.
Chemical Property
1,2-butylene glycol has typical prpoerties of dualistic alcohol. It easily reacts with aldehyde or ketene and produces aldehyde or ketal; reacts with dualistic carboxylic acid or acid anhydride and produces polyester, reacts with dihydric and produces polyurethane. If using nitric acid to react with it through oxidation, the hydroxyl acetic acid and dihydric acetic acid are produced.
Usage
Mainly used as solvent and intermediate
