Approx 3%-5% of the turnover is invested in Research and Development ("R&D") annually. The Group has at least one new downstream product going into commercial production every two years. So far, the Group has completed over 10 R&D projects on corn-based biochemical products, with numbers of new products currently under development.

In the Changchun production base, we have an R&D centre, which has an area of 3,500 square meters, houses over 100 local and overseas agricultural scientists and biochemical engineers responible for the development and cultivation of micro-organisms to work under the best conditions in a large fermentation tank. They also exercise online control to prevent contamination by means of a computerised workflow system.

The R&D team also keeps improving the operation flow and production process through analysing the production cost and production efficiency to increase yield by enhancing the mechanical process or production know-how.

Environmental issues are also a concern of the Group. We engage in environmental friendly production with highly advanced technology which guards through all production processes. Highlights of the environmental friendly production projects are:
- Huge and fully operational waste water control and treatment facilities
- Highly automated computer systems monitor all the production processes to minimize environmental problems and sales process
